The Cost

So this week we went to a Christian festival which was AMAZING! But the interesting thing was that in a number of the worship songs and point were about the cost.

Worth it All by Ben Cantelon

‘I let go of all I have
Just to have all of you
And no matter what it cost
I will follow You
Jesus everything I’ve lost
I have found in You
And when I finally reach the end I’ll say
You are worth it all!
You are worth it all!’

The Cost by Rend Collective Experiment

‘I’ve counted up the cost
Oh I’ve counted up the cost
Yes I’ve counted up the cost
And You are worth it’

These are just to examples of songs where the artist speaks of the cost of following Jesus.

But what I love?

The reminder that there is a cost to following Jesus, to being a Christian, to being Human.

We make SACRIFICES in order to do the right thing and to be the right person etc!

Sacrifice is a word that people don’t always like. It sounds like a burden. It’s hard. Cold. It’s a challenge. Sometimes it feels like it’s too mcuh.

What’s the sacrifice?

Your time? Your Money? Your job? Games? Food? A New car? A new house? Control? Pride? Jealousy? Friends?

I realise some of these things don’t sound like sacrifices. For example sacrificing control of your future, sacrificing a lack of trust in God, sacrificing your fear about something (like a driving test opportunity – silly as it sounds) and giving it to God instead of Holding on to it is freeing, releasing and encouraging! But to give it up can be a sacrifice.

But what about the word gift?

I don’t know about you but I think that has much better connotations. It’s positive. It’s good! People think about a gift and are happy.

So instead of sacrifice replace the word sacrifice with gift. Give God your worries, your job, your house, your children, your wife/husband/partner, your finiances, your future. You can trust him!

No matter what the cost You are both it all.

BOTH those songs proclaim no matter the sacrifice we have to make he is worth it. So give God a gift of sacrifice because no matter how hard it is and how big it is he is undoubtedly worth the cost!

Matthew 6 v 25 -34

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

No matter what the cost                                                       I’ve counted up the cost

You are Worth it all                                                               You are worth it
