‘The Only Way we’ll Ever Stand…’

‘The only way we’ll ever stand

Is on our knees with lifted hands

Make us courageous

Lord, make us courageous’

In number 2 in the Courageous series (https://jemiluce.wordpress.com/2013/01/17/we-were-warriors-on-the-front-lines/) we talk about standing, standing for God.

The first line in the verse says:

‘The only way we’ll ever stand’

So if you think about standing what are you thinking?

  • Upright
  • Firm
  • To fight
  • Taking a Stance

What do you stand for?

  • Your family
  • Your friends
  • Your beliefs

Feel free to add more…

We stand for what’s important to us! But why do we stand? We stand because we want to defend these things, protect them and let nothing harm them.

This verse talks about how we can stand. Particularly in faith.

‘Is on our knees with lifted hands’

So this is how we stand. Humility is so important in standing for God and standing in anything. Arrogance is off-putting to people. I want to someone who can stand in humility. I want to lift my hands to Jesus every day.

The only way we’ll ever stand is on our knees with lifted hands’

The last couple of lines are a cry out to God asking him to:

Make us courageous

Lord, make us courageous’

God wants us to ask him for things. It’s a way that we communicate with him. He loves to talk to us! He loves it even more when what we ask for isn’t greedy. Asking for courage is about character. It improves us as people.

If you want God to make you courageous, ask him. Cos the only way we’ll ever stand is on our knees with lifted hands so Lord, please make us Courageous.

Courage is needed for this. With courage we can stand on our knees with lifted hands.
